How to Clean a Coffee Maker and Remove Coffee Stains

Still think cleaning a coffee maker is a bit fussy? That can be true sometimes but there are actually a few tips you can use to make this work a lot easier.

Coffee Pot

I bet you have heard of methods like cleaning it with bleach before. I don't suggest you try this method because if you do not properly rinse the coffee pot or there is some more bleach residues left, it can mix up with your coffee. For safer methods, the following are the things you ought to try:

Coffee Pot

Denture Tablets
Dissolve denture tablets in water and wait for it to completely soak up before putting it in the water reservoir of your brewer. Denture tablets can help get rid of lime deposits and coffee oil residue in your brewer.

Run a brewing process as normal (make sure you have added the filters as well) and wait for it to finish brewing. After doing this, run a water cycle this time to wash off any remnants from the denture tablets. Now the inside of your brewer is already clean!

Lemon Juice
Fill up the water reservoir and allot some more room for half a cup of lemon juice. This solution also helps dissolve lime sediments along with moulds. In addition to that, it will remove coffee oil rancidity.

Run it like normal again. Afterward, run a water cycle to rinse it off. Rinse off the carafe using lemon wedge and table salt. This will get rid of the grease inside the carafe. You can rinse it off in soapy water afterwards.

Baking Soda
This is best for stains. If you have a hard time removing coffee stains on your white coffee maker, try dissolving baking soda in water and soak a clean cloth in this mixture. Use the cloth to wipe the stains away.

White Vinegar
Using white vinegar can be used to run with a water cycle. Mix half a cup of white vinegar with a cup's worth of water and run the brewing cycle. This should help remove odor, molds and lime deposits.

You can also use it to wipe on the exterior of the machine. It will then eliminate stains and spots from black coffee.

These are just some of the simplest methods today. No need to buy bleach or any other chemical-based cleaning ingredients when you have these at home. Use them once a week and your coffee maker is as good as new.
