Coffee makers are as old as coffee itself. The beginning of coffee makers goes back to the Turkish Ibrik which is a pot made of copper with a ribbed spout and elongated handle. Because there is no filter this pot makes strong coffee and can still be found in many Middle Eastern homes.
The coffee pot has evolved greatly from that beginning and there are a wide variety of options out there to choose from. Below are just a few examples.
Coffee Pot
Most coffee drinkers own a typical drip coffer maker. These are usually not very costly and quite easy to use. Place water into the reservoir and as it is heated it drips over coffee grounds through a filter and into the pot.
That is the main concept and function of the conventional coffee pot. But there are some other special features that can be convenient.
Many coffee makers are now outfitted with a temperature gauge and with a fancy display screen that shows the time of day and has a timer you can set for automatic brewing.
Coffee makers are now designed for people on the go who can not wait for the entire pot to brew. They come complete with a shut off mechanism that stops the flow of the water when the pot is removed to prevent the water from spilling everywhere. There are also some machines that allow you to control to what extent the coffee is brewed.
Since more and more people are starting their day before the sun comes up, some machines are equipped with a lighted display panel for easy use in the dark.
Coffee filters have been elevated to coffee packets. These are filters with coffee inside and they make clean up easy. Once you finish brewing your coffee simply lift the coffee packet from the cup that houses it and throw it away. No measuring and no clean up required. How could it get any easier.
Many coffee machines are now equipped with water filters which is indispensable in some cities where tap water no longer tastes like water. It can be a little costly to have this feature but the end result makes it worth the added expense.
Built in filters is another option. Some people are of the option that this is a better way to go because paper filters change the flavor of the coffee. Judge for yourself.
There even exists the coffee machine that will grind your coffee beans before it brews them. Now rather than having two machines for the job you can have it all in one, saving space on your kitchen counter. Soon there may be a machine that will even roast the beans before it grinds and brews them. Who knows, maybe there already is!
Really, there is nothing like a good old-fashioned cup of coffee and there's nothing wrong with the person who wants to get it the old-fashioned way. Rather than weakening our coffee beyond recognition maybe we could learn a few things from the Turks.
