Coffee Pot Cleaning Tips

People who like using natural products to clean cooking and drinking items, have used this simple system for years with great success. It is easier to clean the coffee pot at the same time as cleaning the coffee maker with vinegar. You can, of course, heat the vinegar on the stove top and clean the pot or glass carafe if that is all you need or want to do.

Coffee Pot

Vinegar is an excellent cleaning solution since it is nontoxic, has no noxious fumes and easily rinses with water. Plus, it is inexpensive and you most likely already have some in your kitchen pantry. Use white vinegar preferably, a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar. White vinegar is fairly colorless which makes it good for removing the dark "coffee ring" that begins to form on the pot after regular use. Apple cider and red wine vinegar do not work as well as white vinegar does for cleaning a coffee pot.

Coffee Pot

To clean a coffee pot that has a stubborn coffee ring, leave it soaking for 24 hours. Pour enough vinegar to fill the pot so it covers the ring. Use undiluted vinegar this time. Put the lid on it, move it aside where it will not be disturbed. The next day, scrub and rinse it. Repeat the same steps as often as needed until satisfied with the results.

The exact same procedure can be used to clean anything that holds coffee. For example, mugs, carafes, canister, coffee grinders, coffee makers, and anything else that comes in contact with soluble coffee. The same vinegar solution is an excellent cleansing solution for the outside of the pot and other kitchen appliances. It helps remove fingerprints and gives appliances a little extra shine.

If you like to recycle, you can pour the vinegar and water solution into a plastic container with a lid and reuse several times before finally discarding it. No refrigeration required. Discard the solution when it gets dark or soiled after reusing it about two to four times.

Because coffee tastes better with a clean coffee maker and a clean coffee pot, we recommend following these directions,

Pour enough vinegar to fill the coffee maker with it instead of water as normally done for coffee brewing. Use a 50/50 water to vinegar mixture. If you prefer to use just vinegar, that works fine as well. Put the coffee pot in the coffee maker just like you do when brewing coffee. Turn the coffee maker "on." Some people recommend using a paper filter, others prefer not to do that. This is a personal choice. Once the pot is filled with the vinegar and water mixture, turn it off and let it cool. Pour the solution back into the coffee maker or back into the pan if doing the coffee pot only. Go through the whole process one more time. Pour out the vinegar mixture and run two pots full of water through the coffee maker to remove the vinegar residue. Pour the coffee pot out again and fill the sink to half full with warm water. Add some dish soap, stir and put the coffee pot in the soapy water. Scrub the pot with a soft kitchen brush or a sponge to remove any rings, marks or debris missed. Rinse with warm water instead of cold water to prevent possibly cracking the glass. Towel dry the pot and run it through the dry cycle in the dishwater. If you prefer not to do this, then simply dry very well with a clean towel.

That's it, your glass carafe is clean and you are now ready to enjoy a cup of coffee!

What about a nice cup of Hazelnut flavored coffee?

Moka Pot - An Effective Coffee Maker For Your Home

A Moka Pot is a simple, inexpensive and very tasty way to make espresso drinks. You wouldn't think so to look at these little pots, but the espresso they produce is as good or better than what you spend big bucks for in a coffee shop!

Coffee Pot

What is a Moka Pot?

Coffee Pot

The Moka Pot has been used in Europe for nearly 80 years. Widely used in Italy, Portugal and Spain, the Moka Pot is often known as "macchinetta" which is Italian for "little machine". It was invented in 1933 by Alfonso Bialetti and eventually found its way into 90% of Italian Homes. Bialetti used aluminum because it was the national metal, though steel is more common today.

It comes in sizes both large and small but you can usually find it in a size that holds about one cup of water in the bottom. It's a three part metal pot that is designed to sit atop your stove as you brew the espresso.

The bottom holds the water, there is a metal filter in the middle to hold the coffee and the top provides the space that allows steam to condense into hot water and drip back down through the coffee. As the water in the bottom heats up, steam is forced up through the coffee in the filter. The steam then rises into the top where it becomes liquid and drips back down.

How to use a Moka Pot

You should add one heaping tablespoon of coffee for every three ounces of water. Add the water to the bottom part of the pot then put the filter basket with the coffee on top, being careful to fit it so that it seals properly. You should not tamp down the coffee, as the steam will cause it to expand and pack itself solidly in the filter.

Screw on the top part and, using low heat, wait until you hear it start to sputter. Your espresso will be done just a few minutes after you hear it start to brew. It's relatively fast, but quite hands on.

The Coffee

The flavor of your espresso will depend on the bean variety, the roast, how finely ground the coffee is and the temperature it's brewed at. Although it's called stovetop espresso, it can create the same crema (light foam on top of the cup) as espresso machines.

Caring for your Moka Pot

Moka Pots are usually made of aluminum but many people prefer to get one made of steel. Some think that aluminum has a detrimental effect on the flavor of the espresso while others think it enhances it. Because the flavor of coffee depends on the oils that the heated water extracts from the beans and those oils cling to everything they touch, it's important to keep your Moka Pot clean. The buildup of oil can make the espresso taste bitter and otherwise affect the taste of the coffee. It's a good idea to run through the process every few weeks using vinegar instead of coffee to get rid of excess oils and mineral deposits. A clean pot keeps the coffee flavor pure and fresh.

How To Use a Percolator Coffee Pot

Percolator coffee pots are immensely popular, particularly to those who want fresh, hot coffee, but do not have access to electricity to get immediate satisfaction for their coffee cravings. Most often, outdoor people and campers love these kinds of coffee makers. Furthermore, because they use less water without electric, and the waste is kept to a minimum, they are often used by people with strong environmental values as well.

Coffee Pot

If you are considering to get a percolator coffee pot, but are not exactly sure how to use it, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will explain exactly how to use the coffee pot and create good coffee anytime, even when you are not at home.

Coffee Pot

The first thing you need to do is make sure that all parts and accessories of the percolator coffee pot is cleaned thoroughly. This is necessary for the first use or subsequent uses. You do not want any waste that may be present on a new pot to be in your coffee and you surely do not want any oils left from the previous use to remain either.

After you have ensured that it has been appropriately cleaned, you now have to make your coffee. The 2nd step of using a percolator is to grind the coffee. The recommended grind is coarse. If the coffee beans are ground too finely your coffee will contain debris. It is a good idea to use a high quality coffee grinder that guarantees a uniform grind each and every time.

Now that you have cleaned the coffee pot and ground the coffee, you will need to assemble the percolator coffee pot together. The jug of the percolator should be filled to the suitable level with fresh water. You will then need to put the coffee you just ground into your brew basket. To get an idea of how much coffee you need within the brew basket you should use the following comparison: For each cup of water within the jug, place one tablespoon (rounded) of your ground coffee into the basket. The basket is then placed onto the jug.

Because it does not use electric, you will need to find other ways of heating the water in the jug. If you are outdoors, most people use a firepit, if indoors, a stove will work just fine. The boiling water is necessary to ensure great coffee. Typically, the cycle will only require about five to six minutes. However, make sure that you do not reboil the water as the coffee will be extremely bitter and rancid.

When you have finished with the above steps, toss the used coffee out of the brew basket and serve in coffee cups with your favorite additions. As you can see, using a percolator coffee pot is really a cinch and provides you with fresh, hot coffee, regardless of where you are.
