How to Clean Automatic Coffee Maker

If you make lots of coffee with an automatic coffee maker, you will need to know how to wash it properly. The accumulation of the oils from the coffee can cause it to slow down and also harm the taste of your coffee. Seeing that no one wants to wait for 30 minutes for a pot of coffee to brew and then have it taste bad, the following steps should be followed to ensure that your coffee machine performs at its best.

Coffee Pot

One way is to get a solution that is specifically made for cleaning automatic coffee machines. It is easy to use and all you have to do is pour it in, run it through and your coffee pot will be clean. However, if you do not wish to use this method, you can create your own solution.

Coffee Pot

Use an ounce of citric acid or white vinegar dissolved in four cups of hot water from the faucet. Add four cups of cold water from the faucet and pour this into the coffee maker just as you would the water when making coffee. Take out the coffee filter, putting it aside, turn your coffee pot on and only four cups of the citric acid and water run through the pot.

Turn your coffee pot off and let it settle for about twenty minutes. You are now ready to turn it back on and let the remaining water and citric acid to flow through. This should remove any residue from inside the coffee maker. The lime that can built up from your water will be flushed out of the coffee maker as well. This is another problem that can cause your coffee maker to not work properly.

When it is completed, depending on the amount of accumulation in your coffee machine , you may need to repeat it again. If so, wait until the coffee maker has cooled down. Do not forget to rinse it. You will need to run at least eight cups of cold water from your faucet through your device at least four times to make sure it is rinsed. When the water that cycles through is clear, your coffee maker is clean. This will likely last about three or four weeks before you have to do it again.

Another product that is recommended instead of the citric acid or vinegar is baking soda. About four tablespoons mixed with eight cups of water is used. Run it through the same as above and see if it works.

If this process does not work, it may be too late for your coffee maker. A lot depends on how thoroughly it has been cleaned from the beginning. After a certain amount of accumulation within the coffee maker it may be impossible to get it to dissolve. When this happens, it is time to get a new coffee maker.

Does Coffee Have Antioxidants?

Coffee is chock-full of healthy antioxidants. It has been said to be an American's largest source of antioxidants; with bananas coming in at a distant second. Our favorite morning beverage is naturally rich with polyphenols, powerful molecules that prevent the damage caused to our bodies by those infamous "free radicals."

Coffee Pot

In scientific yet simple terms, free radicals are unstable molecules that are by-products of our metabolism and produced when our cells grow and die. These unstable molecules want nothing more to become stable again so they bond with other healthy molecules resulting in cell damage, disease, and aging.

Coffee Pot

Diseases and conditions attributed to free radical damage include:

Heart Disease Parkinson's Disease Type 2 Diabetes Colon Cancer Increased Incidence of Gallstones

Antioxidants stabilize the free radicals preventing them from doing damage to our healthy tissue. Our bodies produce their own natural antioxidants to combat the free radicals but we can get extra from consuming plant-based foods, including coffee.

In addition to the prevention of the disease as we mentioned, antioxidants also:

Invigorate the Immune System Inhibit Overall Aging of Cells and the Body Boost Immune System Improve Blood Flow Improve Eye Sight Slow Down Bone Loss

Not only is coffee natural high in these beneficial antioxidants but it has been found that the roasting processing creates its own healthful compounds. Coffee is purported to have more antioxidants than green tree. If you'd rather avoid caffeine, go for a decaffeinated brew for the same benefits. Other foods in which you will find antioxidant nutrients are fruits and vegetables, nuts, seed oils, whole grains, lentils, and beans.

How to Clean a Coffee Maker and Remove Coffee Stains

Still think cleaning a coffee maker is a bit fussy? That can be true sometimes but there are actually a few tips you can use to make this work a lot easier.

Coffee Pot

I bet you have heard of methods like cleaning it with bleach before. I don't suggest you try this method because if you do not properly rinse the coffee pot or there is some more bleach residues left, it can mix up with your coffee. For safer methods, the following are the things you ought to try:

Coffee Pot

Denture Tablets
Dissolve denture tablets in water and wait for it to completely soak up before putting it in the water reservoir of your brewer. Denture tablets can help get rid of lime deposits and coffee oil residue in your brewer.

Run a brewing process as normal (make sure you have added the filters as well) and wait for it to finish brewing. After doing this, run a water cycle this time to wash off any remnants from the denture tablets. Now the inside of your brewer is already clean!

Lemon Juice
Fill up the water reservoir and allot some more room for half a cup of lemon juice. This solution also helps dissolve lime sediments along with moulds. In addition to that, it will remove coffee oil rancidity.

Run it like normal again. Afterward, run a water cycle to rinse it off. Rinse off the carafe using lemon wedge and table salt. This will get rid of the grease inside the carafe. You can rinse it off in soapy water afterwards.

Baking Soda
This is best for stains. If you have a hard time removing coffee stains on your white coffee maker, try dissolving baking soda in water and soak a clean cloth in this mixture. Use the cloth to wipe the stains away.

White Vinegar
Using white vinegar can be used to run with a water cycle. Mix half a cup of white vinegar with a cup's worth of water and run the brewing cycle. This should help remove odor, molds and lime deposits.

You can also use it to wipe on the exterior of the machine. It will then eliminate stains and spots from black coffee.

These are just some of the simplest methods today. No need to buy bleach or any other chemical-based cleaning ingredients when you have these at home. Use them once a week and your coffee maker is as good as new.

Presto 02811 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffeemaker Specifications

One of the most comforting sounds in the world is the bubbling of a coffee percolator at work. And then comes the toasty aroma--it makes for a perfect morning. Percolators have come back to home kitchens, and the Presto 12-cup stainless steel coffee maker is a prime example. Its elegant, hotel-style design brings a touch of luxury to what is for many a daily pleasure.

This coffee maker brews up to twelve cups of coffee at a cup-a-minute rate, which it then keeps at a constant, piping-hot serving temperature. An indicator light in the base announces when the coffee is ready. The inner fixtures--the filter basket and perk tube--are also made of stainless steel, rather than the more common (and less durable) aluminum. The power cord is removable to make storage simple.

Before cleaning the coffee maker, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. Wash the coffee maker with warm, sudsy water and dry it thoroughly; it is not immersible. To preserve the gloss of the stainless steel, do not use steel wool or harsh, abrasive cleansers. The perk spout and filter basket can be cleaned with a brush or pipe cleaner. If necessary, coffee stain remover can be used periodically on the interior surface. The coffee maker measures 10 by 5 by 13 inches (including handle, lid, and spout). Presto guarantees this product with a one-year limited warranty. A simple instruction sheet is enclosed. --Garland Withers

Starbucks Iced Coffee Recipe Versus All Other Iced Coffee

- Are All Recipes The Same?
If you like iced coffee then I expect as you are probably a serious coffee lover you love the starbucks iced coffee recipe. If you are reading this article then you have tasted and know what iced coffee is and you will certainly have tried a starbucks iced coffee recipe. But iced coffee is not what you are thinking it is. You do not make a cup of hot coffee and wait for it to cool down or chill it in the freezer to make a glass of iced coffee. You could not be more wrong! Yes of course iced coffee is a variety of a hot brewed coffee, but there is a method to make it, a method that is different from the way a hot coffee is brewed and the starbucks iced coffee recipe is just gorgeous.

Coffee Pot

Making Iced Coffee- Tips And Tricks

Coffee Pot

Hot coffees are hot-brewed, but if you want to make iced coffee the way it was made when it was started, then you have to cold-brew the coffee. Yes, you read that right - You do not need to heat coffee if you want to make an iced coffee. All you need is a special pot, cold water, and coarsely grounded coffee beans! Or if you prefer try the starbucks iced coffee recipe below and you can be the judge.

o Pour the cold water in the pot.

o Put in the coarsely grounded coffee beans.

Other Ideas for you to try:

o Put some of the coffee you've made in the freezer and make ice cubes out of it.

o Try adding a bit of sugar syrup and a little chocolate flavoring.

o Top off your iced coffee with a generous helping of whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and a flake to really impress your friends- they will think you are an iced coffee expert or an employee of starbucks coffee house!

What will happen is that the cold water will extract the coffee flavors but will not extract the bitter compounds and the fatty oils that are present in the beans. This means that the iced coffee, which is made, will have less acid content than what it would have had if it were hot-brewed. Coffee made using this method was originally called iced coffee. This method was invented in 1962 by a chemical engineer, Todd Simpson, and his company is still around today (It's called Toddy Products).
If you choose to make iced coffee using the hot-brew method, then you must get the coffee into the refrigerator once it reaches room temperature. If you allow it to get colder than that, then it may lose its flavor.

Starbucks Iced Coffee Recipe:

Starbucks Frappuccino

o 2 shots (3 oz.) espresso

o 1/4 cup granulated sugar

o 2 1/2 cups low-fat milk

o 1 Tbls. pectin OR 1 tsp. pectin + 1 tsp. arrowroot

1. Stir sugar into espresso. Cool mixture.

2. Stir milk and pectin into espresso mixture until pectin is dissolved.

3. Fill a glass with ice and either serve mixture over ice, or pour glass contents into blender and blend for 30-45 seconds. Enjoy!
